Indo-French golfer Sharmila Nicollet began pursuing her golfing career at the age of 11. Sharmila, who hails from Bangalore, began playing golf professionally when she was 18 and has won a total of 12 tournaments so far. 28-year-old Sharmila became the youngest Indian golfer to qualify for Ladies European Tour. Apart from representing India at the Asian Games at Doha 2006 and in Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament, Sharmila Nicolette has won several international tournaments including Hero-KGA tournament in 2012 and the Hero-WPGT in 2015. Earlier during an interview, the young athlete spoke about the representation of women in Indian golf, she said, I feel that Golf in India for women needs to grow at a faster pace, a much faster one. Parents must encourage their girls to take up the sport. The day is not far when we’ll see a string of women golfers making their mark on the global terrain. A golf boom, especially women’s golf, definitely awaits India in the next few years. For me, it wasn’t so hard since I was playing really well and was on my peak form. I was dominating in the Amateur circuit and I was already in form and when I went on Pro tour, I dominated there also, won 12 tournaments. So it was more of a mindset thing, more responsibility on your shoulders, Sharmila Nicollet added. (Photos: Instagram)
